When ‘barrow-digger’ Thomasina Bateman arrives in the remote town of Bewlay, nothing seems to go her way. The locals are peculiar and unwelcoming, her contact has vanished, and even her tools are missing. But these mundane setbacks pale in comparison to the supernatural horrors that soon close in as she sets out to excavate the mysterious local legend Hob’s Barrow…

Tasked with crafting soundscapes for the Cloak and Dagger Games developed folk horror game, composer The Machine. The Demon. crafted a series of tracks covering the story’s many moods and locales. Ominous, dangerous, bizarre, but always utterly immersive; the soundtrack transports you back into the folk tale with the drop of a needle.

Now, Stumpy Frog Records & Lost In Cult Records have collaborated to put these tunes to wax. With art by Plastiboo and a stunning ‘framed art’ design, the soundtrack will be pressed to wax in a limited to 500 copies variant, and sold jointly through Stumpy Frog Records and Lost In Cult Records.

The surreal cooking game drops you in Antarctica in 2091 and dares to ask: “Can you fry eggs on top of Mount Everest?”

At first glance, the world of Arctic Eggs seems to go out of its way to put you off. The inhabitants of 2091 can at times appear inhuman, authoritative, uninviting… But this group of doomed people may have more to say about the human condition in a frozen world than you might think. Especially once you pull out your frying pan and make them a fried egg they’ll never forget.

Composer Cameron Ginex defied convention with the game’s soundtrack, opting for smooth jazz, soft muzak, background chatter, and moments of an inviting zen nature. The wallpaper of a strange world, with strange people, and strange situations. And yet, a pervasive sense of beauty and calm is found throughout its 16 tracks.

Now, Stumpy Frog Records & Lost In Cult Records have collaborated to put these tunes to wax. Tomonori Tanaka’s otherworldly soundtrack for the 1999 cult classic video game gets the deluxe, hand-numbered treatment from Stumpy Frog Records, including an exclusive slipmat with every order.

For nearly two decades, Garage: Bad Dream Adventure was lost media. The kind of exotic rumored game whispered about on internet forums, accompanied by bitcrushed .jpg’s sort-of kind-of depicting something unworldly. A game that defies description. Any attempt would be written off as a fever dream. You play a creature, stuck on rails in a strange steel world of machinery, navigating bizarre social politics while sustaining itself on ‘Milky Fuel’ and… a whole lot of sewer fishing.

But now, the game has been made readily available. A unique vision by Tomomi Sakuba, evoking the likes of Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo: The Iron Man and David Lynch’s Eraserhead, and yet an experience wholly its own. In no small part due to composer Tomonori Tanaka’s world-edifying soundscapes.

An alien world demands otherworldly music, infused with the melancholic, the childlike, the desolate, the industrial, the nostalgic; the sense that whatever this world ended up as is irrevocable and filled with echoes of the past. A soundtrack like that deserves a packaging to match.

Hieronymus Bosch’s Brutal Orchestra, created by Talia bob Mair & Nicolás Delgado, is a tale of vengeance in the afterlife. When the dead Nowak enters Purgatory, he’s soon promised guidance from the oily Bosch. This sets off a quest across The Far Shore, The Orpheum, The Garden, and beyond…

It fell on musician Publio Delgado to craft the soundscape for one of gaming’s strangest (and least accommodating) worlds, and the resulting collection of songs can only be described as cohesively eclectic. Going so far as to extract musical notes from the works of painter Hieronymus Bosch himself, Publio’s soundtrack is built on leitmotifs and themes that harken back to those of classic RPGs, infused with modern day sensibilities. Synths, electric & acoustic guitars, organs, Latin influences; the OST spans the gamut, now arranged and contained across two LPs.

This release contains music from both the base game Brutal Orchestra as well as tracks taken from its major content updates. The selection is arranged by composer Publio Delgado, with the vinyl release art created by Emanuel Abarca Zamora.

Wavetale’s soundtrack is something spectacular. Brass, strings, guitars, and even a beautiful voice guide you through a story, and the vinyl release has been put together to evoke exactly that: a gorgeous, cohesive, memorable journey in ~44 minutes. Not just an assembled track list, but also included are tracks edited to flow into one another gracefully for the format. This release contains moments of zen, in which the creaking of chairs and the fingering of instruments punctuate notes. This release also contains bombast and excitement, with erratic strings accompanied by insistent horns. All of it coming together for something truly special; a self-contained adventure on a single LP.

For this release I collaborated closely with composer Joel Bille (whose previous works include the terrific Fe & Ghost Giant OSTs) and visual artist Ellinor Richey (creator of the comic Junkwraith and concept artist at Thunderful Games) who masterfully tied the entire thing together in a stunning package.

Please note: Wavetale has many moments of serene quiet and bliss. On a vinyl format, audible imperfections in wax are impossible to avoid or not notice. Keep this in mind when purchasing.

“Dropsy? Now there’s a name I have not heard in a long time…”

Well, that makes one of us, because composer Chris Schlarb’s soundtrack hasn’t left my rotation in the years since I first played developer Jay Tholen’s brilliant wordless adventure. I remember the exact moment I decided to reach out to Chris Schlarb about a vinyl release: I was playing the game with my then six year old daughter, scouring the street as Dropsy for clues, as the sultry jazz of Kierkegaard’s Neon Lights guided the tone in the background. My daughter took her hand off the mouse for a second and said, “This music…” she paused, finger to her chin, ”… is really good.” That was good enough for me.

Originally released as a 1LP in 2015, the soundtrack has been long since out of print and quite difficult to get your hands on. Especially at a decent price. Believe me, I’ve tried. So I decided to rectify that, and maybe go the extra mile as well, because if there’s a soundtrack that deserves it, Dropsy certainly qualifies.

In collaboration with musicians and parody artists Auralnauts, Stumpy Frog Records has pressed the soundtrack to their ongoing series of ‘As Seen on TV’ parodies known as the ‘Infomercial Wars’.

During an unspecified point in time, a faceless dystopian company pushes out products under the guise of improving the quality of life for humanity. The commercials have a sexy presentation to them, designed to lull the viewer into a hypnotic state and gloss over what is really being sold to them: enslavement to an evil entity. The true purpose of these products is clear to anyone with an iron will: to imprison your mind, strip away your humanity and weaponize what remains. Humanity’s only hope is a scrappy group of freedom fighters whose key to success is convincing you to buy their products instead of the enemy’s. May the best infomercial win.

Beyond humanity. Beyond Copper.

The parody series is made up of real life infomercials with complete audio makeovers. The products themselves vary from one commercial to the next, but a popular trend in these ads is the seemingly unlimited uses for copper, which is taken even further by the parody versions. The bubbly pitchman from the source material has been replaced by a soothing, yet vaguely threatening alien presence. This mysterious voice paints a picture of a world that would make David Cronenberg and James Cameron blush, and all of it is held together by a dystopian soundtrack that is perfect for ushering humanity into the next step of this forced evolution.

In collaboration with composer Ed Harrison (Deus Ex: Breach, Tsioque) and art designer Julianne Griepp, Stumpy Frog is proud to release the full OST (GSDF & NSF albums) to the Half Life 2 modification NEOTOKYO° on 4LP limited vinyl.

During the period of 2004-2009, Half Life 2 modders TEAM RADI-8 created a multiplayer total conversion focused on two clashing factions in a dystopian cyberpunk future inspired by the works of Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell) & Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira). To bring this world to life, they enlisted the help of a then-23 year old composer from the forums: Ed Harrison aka 0edit.

What he created was nothing short of spectacular.

Equal parts frantic and solemn, hopeful and angry, this soundtrack is exactly the kind of art Stumpy Frog Records was made to bring to wax. I’ve been listening to this OST for years and I hope this release will become a mainstay on your record player.
